Five ways to put solar to work

Roof Mount
Empty rooftop space is a great location to place solar panels and is often abundant in large commercial buildings and distribution centers. When evaluating for rooftop solar, it’s important to consider the age of the existing roof, geographical latitude, weather conditions, roof slope, and shading from adjacent buildings or vegetation.

Ground Mount
A ground mounted PV system generally costs a little more on a $/watt basis than a roof mount system because there is more steel involved in the racking system (with posts driven into the soil) and they typically require a fence to enclose the array. While they require more racking than a roof-mounted system, they typically produce more energy because they can be installed with a more optimal tilt angle. This could lead to very similar economics to a roof mount system, and maybe even better depending on the circumstances and system size.

Solar Canopy
A solar PV canopy is an elevated structure that hoists solar panels in overhead locations such as parking lots or other paved areas. Cars can park beneath, taking advantage of the shaded area. Many solar canopies incorporate charging stations so that drivers of electric vehicles can recharge with solar power while parked.

Battery Systems
Battery storage systems, often referred to as Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), combined with commercial solar installations, enable businesses to store excess energy generated during the day for use at night or during peak demand hours. When evaluating battery storage solutions, it’s important to consider factors like energy needs, peak usage times, available space, and the existing solar setup (whether it’s rooftop, ground-mounted, or canopy solar).

EV Chargers
Electric vehicle (EV) charging stations are becoming a common amenity for businesses looking to support their employees and customers who have chosen greener transportation options. At Melink Solar, we proudly support 65 EV chargers at our Milford, OH HQ for employees and visitors! When evaluating EV chargers for your business, it’s important to consider factors such as location, available power capacity, parking layout, and the expected volume of use.
